FUTURE OF AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND OCEANIA
THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD

SUMMARY: Revision 2005

People who have suffered of illness since their birth cannot experience the meaning of the word "Health". By the same token, Europeans who have only endured a more and more deteriorated society ( Cheap immigration, insecurity, violence, islamism, strikes, bad governance, gloomy economic prospects ) can hardly imagine what happiness means.

Considering this fact, the far side of the world justifies a specific survey: Of course the big pictures could merit benign neglect: The population only attains 33 million ( Australia: 21, New zealand: 4, 0ceania: 8). It would reach about 42 million by 2030. The global GNI accounts for 638 $Billion in 2004 (Australia: 541, New Zealand: 82 , Oceania: 15). By 2030, we can expect 1,750 $Billion. However, this regional survey is a good food for though because the future of Australia is a road map to happiness.

Australia and New Zealand enjoy the best living standards in the world. Since Australian and New Zealander are very happy, they do not want to open their countries to a cheap immigration. As a result, Australia is empty and could greet million of migrants. With its huge open spaces, its buoyant economy, its permanent spring , Australia could be a safe harbor for million of Europeans fleeing the islamization of Europe.

A massive European immigration would completely change the economic and demographic prospects regarding the entire region. The Australian business has already taken in account this fact and predicts 50 Million inhabitants by 2050 ( Compared to 28 according to current growth rate ). We expect that this survey will bring comfort and hope to many young people in Europe. Do not accept to have a sad future. Just like your ancestors who fled dictatorships, Communism and Nazism, Move now!

1-DIAGNOSIS 2-ROAD TO HAPPINESS

1-DIAGNOSIS

A short examination shows that all the indicators regarding Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia and Micronesia are quite satisfactory. There are some concerns about Melanesia.

11-Australia

By many criterion, Australia looks like the American Far West: Huge open spaces, large roads, towers in cities and vast suburbs with comfortable housing. However, the quality of life is better: No insecurity, first class education and health, good urban transportation.

111-Geography

Australia covers 7,700,000 square kilometers with four main regions: The North tropical area (Cairn and the great coral reef barrier), the Eastern area with large grasslands (Sydney), the South west (Perth) and the dry and barren remote inland. The ground contains huge mineral resources: Bauxite, coal, iron ore, copper, tin, gold, silver, uranium, nickel, tungsten, mineral sands, lead, zinc, diamonds, natural gas, petroleum.

The population density is very low (2.6 inhabitants per square kilometer). Australian live in towns situated in the Eastern and Southern coasts, and in the West. Click on : infoplease.com/atlas/country/australia.html .You will get a specific map of Australia.

112-Population

The population represents 21 million. It is composed mainly with Europeans: 92% (Asian: 7%, Aboriginal and other: 1%). Based on current growth rates, the population would be about 25 million in 2030 and 28 in 2050. A large part of the growth will have to come from immigration (70,000 per year).

It is a mainly a Christian country (Catholic: 26.4%, Anglican: 20.5%, other Christian: 20.5%, Buddhist: 1.9%, Muslim: 1.5%, Other: 1.2%, Unspecified: 12.7%, None: 15.3%)

113-Economy

At the beginning of the century and thanks to its mineral and agricultural resources, Australia had the higher revenue per capita in the world. Then, the economy declined but since the 90 there is a fast rising of the output. The economy enters its 15th successive year of continuous growth: In 1990, the global GDP accounted for 311 $billion. It increased to 541 $Billion in 2004 (GNI).

Consider the next drawing: (Yearly GDP growth rate in %, Gross national income-GNI-Atlas Bank method-In US$Billion, Gross national income per capita in US$)

DRAWING 2

Years---------------------- 2000--- 2001--- 2002--- 2003---2004

GDP growth rate ------------2%-----4%-----3%----4%-----3%

GNI--------------------------385-----386----- 384----436-----541
GNI /per capita-----------20,090--19,890---19,580--21,960--26,900

The change in GNI and GNI per capita are mostly due to the change in currency rate. Regarding the evolution, the only right indicator is the GDP growth rate. In Purchasing Power Parity, the income per capita attains US$29,000 ( compared to 27,000 in France ). An executive earns 50,000 to 85,000 AUS$ and can get a 350 square meters brick and tile town house ( 100 meters from the beach ) for 345,000 AUS$ ( That is to say only 200,000 Euro! ).

This fast growth was due to economic reforms adopted in the 1980's and growing ties with China. Labor productivity grew at more than 2% a year ( Among the highest rates in the OECD ). The unemployment rate has fallen to 5.1% ( Close to rock bottom in an advanced economy). Australia's minimum wage ( US$365 ) a week, is among the highest in the world. The country is a low-tax economy ( Taxes: 31% well beneath the OECD average of 36% ).

However, the economy is handicapped by shortages in skilled people and bottlenecks in infrastructures ( Congestion at ports, on rail networks and manufacturing industry at its Full capacity).

Regarding the future, Australia is well positioned in a world changing economy centered on the Asian Pacific region. By 2030, we can expect a global GNI of 1,500 $Billion ( Considering a growth rate of 4% over 26 years ).

Our small investor rating is ****+ . ( It has been upgraded following our August 2005 visit ).

114-Politics

In international affairs, Australia committed troops to Iraq and plays a major role in restoring peace and order in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands ( See below ).
Australia is largely involved in war on terrorism and signed antiterrorism accords with Fiji, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. These treaties commit the countries to increasing cooperation against terrorists and their financial sponsors.

12-New zealand

New Zealand differs very much of Australia. Towns and people habits look like the United Kingdom and notably Scotland. It is a very "British" country.

121-Geography

New Zealand covers 271,000 square kilometers ( Larger than the UK: 240,000 ) and is composed with two major islands: The North island with Auckland ( 1.2 ) and the South island with high mountains ( Mount Cook: 3,754 meters ). The ground contains natural gas, iron ore, sand, coal, timber, hydropower, gold, limestone. Sheep and cattle graze both in the North and South Island.

122-Population

The population represents 4 million and is composed mainly with Europeans:70% Maori: 8%, Asian: 6%, Pacific islander: 4.5, Other: 11.5% . Based on current growth rates, the population would be about 4.6 in 2030 and 4.8 in 2050. New Zealand is seeking for skilled migrants: Each year 50,000 people are authorized to settle in the country.

It is mostly a Christian country: Catholic: 12.4%, Anglican: 14.9%, Presbyterian: 10.9%, Methodist: 2.9%, Pentecostal: 1.7%, Baptist: 1.3%, other Christian: 9.4%, Other: 3.3%, Unspecified: 17.2%, None: 26%. Rugby is the national sport and some would say the national religion!

123-Economy

Meat, dairy food, wool and timber have long characterized the economy. It was usually said that New Zealand was the farm of the Commonwealth. Today, agricultural sector only represents 4% of the GDP and the economy is at the cutting edge in many sectors such as biotech, information, drugs, cosmetics, steel products, shipyards and tourism.

The GDP has risen for six consecutive years. In 1990, the global GDP accounted for 44 $Billion. It increased to 82 $Billion in 2004 (GNI). Consider the next drawing ( Yearly GDP growth rate in %, Gross national income-GNI-Atlas Bank method-In US$Billion, Gross national income per capita in US$ )

DRAWING 3

Years---------------------- 2000---- 2001----2002----2003----2004

GDP growth rate ----------- 3%------3%-----4%-----4%-----4%

GNI------------------------- 52--------52------53-------62------82
GNI /per capita--------- 13,700----13,440---13,450---15,530-- 20,310

The change in GNI and GNI per capita are mostly due to the change in currency rate. Regarding the evolution, the only right indicator is the GDP growth rate. In Purchasing Power Parity, the income per capita attains US$23,000.

New Zealand is one of the most progressive welfare state in the world ( First class education, health and transportation). Considering the current growth rate (4%) we can expect a GNI about 230 $Billion by 2030.

Our small investor rating is ****- : New Zealand is a relative inexpensive country and conversion of currencies to kiwi dollars usually favors foreigners.

124-Politics

Some activist Maori have increased their claims on land and resources and the government has taken a harder stand against them. In fact, according to my own observation, I may testify that the Maori ( A polynesian population-See below) are perfectly integrated. On the international scene, New Zealand joined the Australia to restore peace and order in the Solomon Islands (See below).

13-Oceania

The "remote paradises" ( Polynesia and Micronesia) only represent 1.1 million people. Most of the Melanesian population (7.2 Million) live in African sub standards due to ethnic strifes. Oceania counts 22 countries and dependencies that can be divided into three areas scattered in the Pacific:

-Polynesia: Independent countries: Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu. US dependency: US samoa (Hawaii is an US State as Texas or Montana). French overseas territories: French Polynesia, Wallis and futuna. New zealand dependency: Cook Islands. Chile dependency: Easter Island

-Micronesia: Independent countries: Palau, Federated states of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Marshall islands. US dependencies: Northern Mariana islands, Guam, Wake island. New zealand dependency: Niue

-Melanesia: Independent countries: Papua New Guinea, Solomon islands, Vanuatu, Fiji. French overseas territory : New Caledonia

Click on: www.infoplease.com/atlas/pacificislandsandaustralia.html. You will get a specific map of Oceania.

131-Geography

Polynesia and Micronesia form a patchwork of tiny islands and archipelago scattered in the North and South pacific ocean. However, each archipelago can exercises its sovereignty on huge marine areas. For example, French Polynesia ( 4,000 square kilometers ) exercises its marine sovereignty on an area which could include the entire Europe from Brest in France to Moscow! Most of the islands are covered with tropical rainforests, coconuts and offer large lagoons. Climate is often rainy and cloudy. You can endure 15 days of rain in winter as in summer ( Quite disappointing for European travelers making 25,000 kilometers to get these destinations! )

Melanesia includes Papua New Guinea which has a significant area ( 463,000 square kilometers ). This country occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea (Which is shared with the Indonesian territory of Irian Jaya) and many small islands and atolls ( Bismarck Archipelago, Islands of Manus, New Britain, New Ireland, Bougainville and the North Solomons ). The central part of the Papua new Guinea culminates with Mount Wilhelm ( 4,509 meters, the highest mountain in the Pacific ). This mountainous interior has only recently been explored. Many Melanesian islands have a volcanic activity ( Vanuatu ).

132-Population

Oceania counts 8.3 Million ( Polynesia: 0.5, Micronesia: 0.5, Melanesia : 7.3 ). The population would reach 10.6 in 2030 ( 9 in Melanesia )

Melanesia has always been a fieldwork site for anthropologists such as Malinowski and Margaret Mead. The past civilization was very primitive ( Cannibalism was practiced in Melanesia until quite recently in many areas. However, thanks to political correctness it has become unfashionable and racist to believe in cannibals! ).

On the other hand, the Polynesian and Micronesian are very friendly ( All the explorers took notice of this fact and for example the Tonga islands were initially called the archipelago of "The Friendly Islands") and well adapted to the Western civilization. In the recent years, a new generation has surged with a high literacy rate (97% in most Polynesian islands). Moreover, many students enroll in Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand Universities ( A South Pacific university exists in Tonga).

Oceania is fervently Christian. You may observe many churches with a large diversity: Evangelical, Adventists, Latter days Saints, Assembly of God, Mormons (notably in Tonga). People attend massively the churches but there are some remnant animist beliefs ( In Easter Island many people continue to believe that the famous stone statutes moved by themselves to the sea shore! In Melanesia, black magic remains in use )

133-Economy

The global GDP accounts for 15 $Billion in 2004 (Polynesia: 3.8, Micronesia: 1.9, Melanesia: 9 ). There are large differences in income per capita: 15,000 in French New Caledonia, 580 in Papua New Guinea. In fact, these figures are meaningless: In New Caledonia, large french communities enjoy higher living standards than in France. In other islands, African low standards are prevalent and notably in Papua New Guinea and Solomon where the situation is obliterated by ethnic strifes ( See below ).

However, Melanesia has plenty raw materials: In Papua New guinea, timber is an abundant resource and copper, gold and oil are exploited. In New Caledonia, nickel represents 25% of world reserves. By contrast, Polynesia and Micronesia have scarce resources: Fishing, coconuts, black pearl and tourism. On the other hand, these peoples benefit of large remittances from migrants working abroad ( New Zealand and Hawaii ). What is more, the Micronesian islands harbor strategic military basis ( Guam ) and have defense agreements with the US. Globally, Polynesia and Micronesia receive many grants from their Western "sponsors" ( US, Australia, New Zealand, France ). As a result, I observed both in Tonga, Cooks and Easter Island that people own big cars, benefit of good public or private health and education and finally get better living standards than many European.

What is more, the main resources could appear in the future: Thanks to large marine areas, we can expect new mineral discoveries. Another fantastic prospect relies in the lagoons. Some years ago, I read a classified survey: Let 'us suppose that French Polynesian lagoons are cultivated with seagulls. The potential output of food could be equal to the total food production of the entire US Middle West! It means that these islands can have a bright future in case of food shortages due to world overpopulation.

Regarding small investors, it is forbidden to buy land owned by the ethnic genuine population ( In some islands such as the Cooks you can lease for sixty years ). In fact, the only way to buy land is to marry a local girl: Most of the Australian and European running business ( Hostels, resorts, restaurants ) have chosen this solution!

Our small investor rating ( Only dedicated to countries we have personally visited ) gives the following results:

French Polynesia: **+ : Thanks for a special statute, you get the french infrastructures and legal protection without the State and taxes regulations! What is more, there is a friendly population. Many possibilities remain in tourism business. Tonga, Cooks Islands, Easter Island: **- : Only tourism in these countries. French Caledonia: **+ : Noumea looks like Cannes on the french riviera : Many yachts and luxury resorts. However, beware about political prospects ( see below ). Fiji : * : Political instability, obscure ethnic war.

134-Politics

Globally, Melanesia is undermined by ethnic and tribal wars. Crime and violence between tribes remain a growing problem. In Papua new guinea, a recent civil war caused 20,000 dead. In Solomon islands, clan identity is a constant source of ethnic rivalry and the government called for military help from Australia and New Zealand. In the Fiji, ethnic strifes led to Indian emigration. In French New Caledonia, a referendum will take place in 2014 to decide either to become independent, either to stay in the French Republic. In fact, French, Polynesian and Asian who favor the French Republic account for 56% of the population. In order to favor the Melanesian, it has been decided that all the migrants since 1998 should be excluded from the vote! However, there is another outcome: European allied to Polynesian and Asian could secede to escaping tribal laws!

In Polynesia and Micronesia, all the countries, whatever their political statutes, are free. There is an absolute security and crimes and offences are quite nonexistent.

1-DIAGNOSIS 2-ROAD TO HAPPINESS

2-ROAD MAP TO HAPPINESS

This regional survey provides us with some interesting insights about the role of culture in the economic development and as a condition of true happiness. Oceania shows that you have to change a bad culture into a new one to benefit of economic development. On the other hand, Australia and New Zealand show that you have to keep your culture when it is a good one. Coupled with economic development, the preservation of a good culture is the true condition of happiness.

21-The roots of Happiness

We know that freedom, democracy and technical progress bring the economic growth. However, freedom and democracy imply a sharp change in culture and Oceania illustrates this situation: At the beginning the Melanesian and Polynesian populations had the same cultural background based on ignorance, negative knowledge, magic and so on. Today and in spite of scarce resources, the Polynesian enjoy a better living than the Melanesian who benefit of large raw materials. The cause of this situation seems obvious. The polynesians have favored education and adopted the universal values ( Initially Western values). On the other hand, the Melanesian took the opposite way: They claimed that their native stone age culture was a great accomplishment and they refused to adapt themselves to the new civilization.

In fact, the Melanesian have been too much influenced by cultural relativism who states that all the civilizations have the same value. The Melanesian had a bad cultural background and instead to change it, they have been encouraged to nurture it! Consequently, freedom, democracy and technical progress could not be rooted and as a result, they remain poor and exposed to insecurity. However, Christianity establishes a bridge with the Western civilization ( For example, the Papua of New Guinea and Solomon islands were allied with the US and fought fiercely the Japanese army during World War 2. Today, the US, Australia, New Zealand and France exercise a close supervision on the region and the Pacific islanders agree with that. Globally, we may posit that Oceania will be a peaceful area in the future).

Australia and New Zealand bring another insight about the same idea. The Australian and the European have the same market oriented economy and quite the same welfare State. However, European do not enjoy happiness and experience a deteriorated situation. On the contrary, the people in Australia and New zealand is happy. The cause seems obvious. The Australian and the New Zealander have preserved their Western values. On the other hand, the European tend to destroy their genuine culture and indulge for sub culture based on fanaticism, ignorance, and so on. As a result, and in spite of acceptable economic performance, they are more and more unhappy.

Visiting Australia and New zealand, anybody can observe the differences with Europe. Of course, Australia benefits of huge open spaces which facilitate easy car traffic and parking but the main differences rely on the people and governments behaviors (That is to say the day to day culture).

Firstly, the citizens are well educated, courteous and clean. The word "insecurity" has no meaning. The young peoples have fun in large pubs (There are renowned vineyards in the two countries: Swan river and Margaret river in Australia, Marlborough area in new zealand!) and do not risk to be aggressed. Indeed, in Fremantle (Perth), Sydney, Waiheke or Devonport (Auckland) you can really experience what a good life means.

Secondly, Australia and New Zealand benefit of good governance that cannot be compared with countries such as France, Italy, Greece, Ukraine and so on. Corruption does not exist. As a result and whatever the ruling party ( Conservative in Australia, Labor in New Zealand ) the two countries enjoy good public and private infrastructures ( First class education and health, public and private transportations available at low costs ). What is more, ( And it could be astonishing for an European ) the governments protect their populations and do not intend to replace them by overseas populations.

22-An hidden Happiness

The Australian and New Zealander are very happy because they have protected their genuine culture and they have protected it because they have limited immigration. Australia began to tighten its immigration policy following a surge in illegal migrants, mostly from the Middle East, during the 1998-2001 period. This policy gets a large public support despite criticism and challenges by some leftist scholars. Australia notably fears the cheap immigration coming from the Middle East, Africa, and the muslim Indonesia. The country uses a points system which mainly emphasizes on education and positive thinking. New zealand follows quite the same policy and greets Pacific Islanders, Asian and Indian because these migrants do not intend to change the British culture. "Yes, we are very lucky" say Australian and New Zealander " We do not want to become like Europe... It's so sad! "

As a result, Australia is empty and this fact is going to be an economic problem. The large European migrations ( During the 19th and the first quarter of the 20th ) have ignored this far side of the world. What is more, many European still believe that Australia is a desert inhabited by Kangaroos and Aboriginal (1% of the population and a stone age culture). By the end, some ecologists explain that Australia would only have a limited population to preserve its environmental resources!

Of course, these guys ignore the role of technical progress! The tropical area of the North East and the South West which benefit of large water resources are still inhabited. Thanks to its huge resources in energy ( Coal, uranium, solar) Australia could built up desalination plants and pipe lines carrying the water to the inland. Irrigation could follow on a large scale. In fact, Australia could greet million of migrants.

23-A safe Harbor

With its huge open spaces, its buoyant economy, its permanent spring , Australia could be a safe harbor for million of European fleeing the islamization of Europe.

Clearly, Australia does not indulge for Islamism and the government has recently make clear its position. Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on September 2005 to get out of Australia. Moreover, the government is studying the possibility to impose electronic necklaces for islamists. Clearly, the mood is not the same than in Europe!

More precisely, Australia is yet a sanctuary for the European civilization which is at stakes everywhere. A massive European immigration could completely change the economic and demographic prospects regarding the entire region. The Australian business has already taken in account this fact and predicts 50 million inhabitants by 2050 ( Compared to 28 according to current growth rate )

We expect that this prospect will bring comfort and hope to many young talented European. Do not accept to have a sad future. Just like your ancestors who fled dictatorships, Communism and Nazism, Move now!
